PicNet migrates Pfizer's Eyre Care software from VB6 to .NET

Eyre Care, the desktop application developed by PicNet for Pfizer Australia, that allows General Practitioners to do Care Plans, Health Assessments and Home Medicines Reviews has now been migrated to the .NET platform.

Recognising the long term value of endorsing the latest technology, Pfizer Australia continues to invest in the production and future of Eyre Care. This new technology will enable greater flexibility, security, reliability and longevity for the product.

Both the Eyre Care Pharmacy and Eyre Care GP versions will be migrated to .NET platform and the project will be completed in 2006.

The NSW Attorney General's Department, Information Services Branch, manages its IT security risks using Risk Shield®

PicNet completes development of Eyre Care 4.2 for Pfizer Australia

PicNet has now completed Eyre Care version 4.2 for Pfizer Australia. As part of an ongoing partnership, PicNet's team of developers continue to provide Pfizer Australia with the technical expertise required to ensure they remain at the forefront in the area of disease management software solutions.

PicNet originally developed Eyre Care for Pfizer in 2002 and has continued to produce new enhancements of the software to ensure that it meets the evolving needs of both Pfizer and their customers.

The Eyre Care software is produced with IP from Pfizer and the Eyre Peninsula Division of General Practice (EPDGP). Eyre Care is a Desktop Application designed to help GPs provide Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) for Chronic Disease Management, Health Assessment and Home Medicines Review.

Eyre Care 4.0 was released in November 2005 with support for GP Management Plans (MBS 721) and Team Care Arrangements (MBS723). These two items were part of the Federal Government's new Chronic Disease Management program.

Eyre Care 4.2 has now been completed and was released in early May 2006.

Former CIO slams tier-1 service providers, govt tenders

Marco Tapia, ex-CIO for P&O Ports and now managing director of Sydney-based IT services firm PicNet, said enterprises are getting the "rough end of the pineapple" from the tier-1s which "want to suck every drop of blood you have".

"There is a huge degree of dissatisfaction with large suppliers [who are] sending a lot of work overseas, which is a bigger problem," Tapia said. "People are getting sick of [offshored] service and are tending to use small companies like ours which bend over backwards to make [customers] happy."

Last month, an online poll by Computerworld asked whether organizations would try smaller IT services firms in 2006. An overwhelming 57 percent of respondents answered "yes, the tier-1s are too slow and expensive", while 14 percent are not prepared to "take the risk", and 29 percent already selectively use smaller firms. Tapia agrees with the survey results saying it is a "good sign" but doubts the shift towards tier-2 and tier-3 suppliers will occur this year, because it will "take longer to realize the poor level of service" now received.

"If I had a big contract, I would break it up to small suppliers and bring management control in-house," Tapia said, adding he would get better service and value. "Companies can save 50 percent because an hourly rate [of a tier-1] can be $200 or more. Even if it is 40 percent less, you will save a lot."

Pfizer has engaged PicNet to complete its implementation of Applix TM1 http://www.applix.com the leading Business Intelligence and Business Performance Management Solution.

PicNet has project managed the implementation of TM1 into the Pfizer Consumer Health Care business and it is currently completing it within the Prescription and Animal Health care businesses.

In addition to project managed the implementation, PicNet has provided TM1 developers and Business Analysis resources.

The overall project (for all divisions) is aimed to be completed by April 2005.
